Enabling the collection and exchange of food safety information among industry and government
FL7.org, an organization formed with the mission of enabling the collection and exchange of food safety information among industry and government, launched today, November 30, 2009.
FL7.org was created as a forum in which food producers, consultants, software companies and government can come together with the shared goal of increasing food safety by sharing requirements, knowledge, information and systems. FL7.org will complement existing systems and standards, providing a forum in which best practices and shared understanding can be established by a broad group of participants.
With provisions set forth by the "Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009" governing food safety, it is apparent that companies will be required to produce more documentation and collect more data relating to food safety than ever before. FL7.org will provide access to information and systems to address the needs of food producers and the FDA. It is anticipated that the Food Safety Act will be put into law on Dec. 31st, 2009.
There are a number of ways for individuals, food companies, software companies, consultants, auditors, advertisers and government representatives to participate. To explore participation, propose a project or make a request, visit the Participate section of the website. Over the coming months, we will release further information which will provide clarity on the software systems and services FL7.org will provide along with details as to how individuals or companies can contribute to our projects.
